Located conveniently between Sudbury and Bury St Edmunds, in the heart of the Suffolk countryside, Alpheton Village Hall provides a flexible venue and rehearsal space for clubs and family parties. Hall hire is available to parish residents, non-residents and businesses.
Events run at the hall are run for the benefit of the local community and are open to all.
Dearest gentle reader,
The social season is upon us, and it is my distinct honour to share the most tantalising news of the upcoming Grand May Ball. The village hall shall be transformed into a scene of unparalleled elegance, and you are cordially invited to an evening that promises to be the talk of the ton.
Prepare your finest attire for an evening of sophisticated revelry. While the occasion demands formal dress, we shall dispense with the rigours of black tie in favour of polished grace.
Upon your arrival, a welcome glass of Prosecco shall await you, ensuring the festivities begin with a delightful sparkle.
Our esteemed guests shall be treated to a magnificent five-course banquet:
Appetisers: Choose between a decadent Pate de Champagne with red onion marmalade or a delicate wild mushroom crustless tart.
Entrées: Indulge in a rich Daube de Boeuf Provencal or a savory Spanakopita with Kalamata salad.
Dessert: A tropical Caribbean Pavlova served with mango sauce.
Cheese Course: A curated selection of British and Continental cheeses with spiced chutney.
The Finale: Warm tea, coffee, and after-dinner mints to conclude the meal.
To further enhance your dining experience, wine for the table may be included with your order.
A photographer will be in attendance to capture your most radiant moments before the night gives way to live music and spirited dancing. Most importantly, this grand affair serves a noble purpose: all proceeds shall go toward the charity fundraiser for our beloved village hall.
Do not let this moment pass you by; it would be a scandal to miss it.
Set in the stifling bureaucracy of 1950s London, Living follows Mr. Williams (played by Bill Nighy), a veteran civil servant who has spent decades buried under paperwork and emotional repression. When a terminal diagnosis shatters his monotonous routine, Williams realizes he has lived a life without truly living.
In a final, desperate quest for meaning, he breaks free from his grey office existence to reclaim his humanity. What follows is a quiet, profoundly moving masterpiece about the legacy we leave behind and the beauty of a life well-lived—even at the eleventh hour.
Entrance £5 includes tea/coffee & biscuit
